    Abstract
Over the last two decades rates of divorce have increased in Botswana (Murray, 1981; Ahmed and Letamo, 1989; Bhebhe and Mosha, 1996). Despite this trend, little is known about women’s experiences of marital property division and the subsequent effects of this on women and children. This issue is of particular interest not only because little is known about it, but also because of the influence of social change on women and children’s experiences of divorce.
