dc.description.abstractBackground: Resource constraints in the public health sector led to the adoption of community home based care to complement the formal health care. Currently, there are 3642 people registered with community home based care in Botswana. Challenges facing caregivers are numerous and include shortage of finances, lack of transport to facilities, and low education level. Objective: To investigate the challenges faced by family caregivers when providing care to clients in the home settings in Lobatse. Methodology: Deci and Ryan’s Self Determination Theory will be used as a framework to guide the study. The study utilizes an exploratory and descriptive design. Purposive sampling will be used to recruit participants. Thematic content analysis will be employed to analyse data. Conclusion: The study has implications for programming and policy, and training for family caregivers and recommendations for quality care will be made.en_US
