The purpose of this paper was to explore the effect of HIV/AIDS on job satisfaction amongstthenurses in the
public health sector of Botswana. Despite the intensive research on job satisfaction, it would seem dissatisfaction
with work has reached critical levels throughout the society and that the nursing profession is no exception to
this growing trend. The current study demonstrates that HIV/AIDS has a negative effect on the satisfaction of the
nurses and this supports some of the earlier studies on job satisfaction. Therefore the exploration of the effect of
HIV/AIDS on job satisfaction has the potential to aid development of strategies to improve the declining level of
job satisfaction among nurses in Botswana.
